The University of Siena (Tuscany, Italy) and the PhD School of Earth Sciences and Prehistory (University of Siena), in agreement with CeSQ-Quaternary Studies Center of Sansepolcro (Tuscany, Italy), will run an accredited summer school from July 15st to August 15st 2012. The school carries an Honours level in Italy and in the UK as well as a fourth year undergraduate level credit for the American school system.
The University of Siena is one of the most renowned universities in Italy and holds a long tradition in archaeology and anthropology.
The summer school "Middle Bronze Age Archaeology Field School 2012 in the Tuscan hills between art and nature" will take place along the Afra river, in a hilly area called Gorgo del Ciliegio, near the city of Sansepolcro (District of Arezzo), where an ancient settlement dating about 1450 BC is located.
Training includes: prehistoric and archaeological excavation methodologies, stratigraphy and localization of spatial distribution of artefacts and structures. Classification, cataloguing as well as restoration of all the excavated materials (faunal
remains, pottery, etc) and correlated studies are also part of the experience. Seminars about geomorphology, paleobotany, anthropology, and archaeozoology are included. There will also be an excursion in the Alpe della Luna Nature Reserve and visits to few of the most characteristic cities of Tuscany, such as Arezzo, Cortona, and Florence.
